10 Dimensions

Feb. 25th, 2009 at 5:51 PM

There are more than three dimensions?!?!?!? =OOOOOO

I know i usually write about books, but this entry is going to be about math, for once. If you hate math, I suggest you not to read this then.

In math team (shut up - it's not that nerdy) we watched some video about the 10 dimensions. Yes, apparently there are more than 3. wtfreak. I never knew that until this year.

So basically dimension 0 is just a point with no ways of measures. Dimension 1 is just a line, which only has length, but nothing else. Dimension 2 is a plane/shape, and it has length and width (like a quadrilateral, for example). Dimension 3 is, well, 3-D....it has length, width, and depth. Most people know this already.

Dimension 4 is time. The video described it as a line connecting a "something" from the past to its current state. And the 5th dimension is alternatives and possibilities. I'm not sure how to explain this. Let's say you're looking back at yourself in the past. The past version of you is living in what was the present in the past. (The video explains this better than I do.) So this past-you makes decisions that can lead you to one path or another path. Now the present-present-you can't go back to that past, but you can make a dicision that will get you to another path? Or something like that.

I pretty much got lost after the 5th dimension. I've made a conclusion that all these extra dimensions are just useless and impractical. It's a stupid idea concurred by people who like to make their brains hurt. haha.

If anyone's interested, the videos are on youtube....

part 2 is somewhere on there...

Overall, I thought this thing was kinda stewpid. But I liked the explanations on the first 3 dimensions.
